The Northern Governors

The funky side of Finnish blue eyed soul and jazz grew significantly stronger when Blue Note released the album “This Is The Northern Governors” early this year. When the seven piece band plays live a whole new set of musical muscles start working and many tasty influences can be detected from the overall sound and style of tunesmith Jorma Kalevi Louhivuori ? Tower of Power, Fela Kuti, George Clinton and Defunkt ring the bell first.

Still, The Northern Governors won’t grow pale in comparison with the flames of their famous godfathers but reach out for their very own synthesis with heart and a nice set of chops. The future of the band doesn’t seem too shabby either, especially, when they have a seasoned vocalist and keyboard player like Tuomo Prättälä aboard.
