Festival year 1976
The 11th festival started on July 16th and ended on July 18th. The music was diverse and of high quality – for instance Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton, Odetta, John McLaughin & Shakti, Cecil Taylor and Stan Getz gave concerts. There were 24 events during the festival attracting some 43 000 people.
The most anticipated guest was Stan Getz and the audience just loved him. The closing sauna party for the foreign artists is probably something Stan Getz will remember from that day on – his hair got caught in sap in Sauna and the hair had to be cut in order to set him free.
The annual scholarship was presented to Sakari Kukko who had made a breakthrough in 1975 with his group Piirpauke.
