Festival year 2000
In 2000 Pori Jazz reached the notable age of 35 years. The festival started on July 15th and closed on July 23rd. With 550 musicians (325 Finns) the festival offered 121 concerts at 13 venues. 68 concerts were free of charge.
65% of music was rated as pure jazz and the rest as other rhythm music (blues, rock, R&B, soul, ethno).
Vibraphonist Arttu Takalo was chosen as the artist of the year.
In a study of the image of music festivals conducted by Taloustutkimus Oy Pori Jazz shared the first place in the overall image and was rated the best when the attendance, repertoire, atmosphere and audience eagerness to come again were considered.
