Kadri Voorand feat. Jussi Kannaste
(EST/FIN)
vocal jazz
Taking her influence from old school vocal and mainstream jazz and Latin music, the Estonian singer creates her own music that echoes classic female jazz singers, like Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae, with today’s sensibility.
Kadri Voorand has sung and played Estonian folk music on violin from a small girl, while also studying classical piano. Later she studied jazz at the Estonian Academy of Music & Theatre and at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm winning a plethora of music prizes, like in 2008 the “Young Jazz Talent Award” issued by the Jazzkaar Festival. Her debut album, Tunde kaja (The Echo of Feeling, 2009), consists of original compositions and features the Finnish Sony Jazz Award winning saxophonist and head of the Sibelius Academy’s jazz department, Jussi Kannaste, with top class Estonian rhythm section, who have worked with the likes of Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans and Joe Lovano.
