Stefan Pasborg’s Odessa 5 feat. Kalevi Louhivuori
(DK/LAT/FIN)
contemporary jazz with ethnic & avant-garde influence
Take a little Mingus and Ornette, spice them up with a seasoning of afro-beat and avant-garde, and mix all of them with a carefully marinated stew of Balkan music and New Orleans tradition. Form into
original compositions and let four top-notch horn men and a killer drummer fry them freely. Enjoy with a crazy grin, swinging like a maniac!
Denmark’s number one drummer Stefan Pasborg is an awesome energy center, who is able to make you tap your feet with the oddest tempos. The wild rhythm conjurer represents that school of
thought where experimentalism doesn’t grow from angst. His imaginary Odessan music is not plagued by unhealthy seriousness, but by emancipated curiosity and a sense of groove that’s almost
mystical. Pasborg zig-zags from one style to another with reckless abandon in his many bands, like Ibrahim Electric, Rød Planet, Ictus, Delirium and Megaphone. He belongs also to Tomasz Stanko’s
New Balladyna Quartet.
Stefan’s co-conspirators in Odessa 5 are young and hungry blowers, like Mads Hyhne, Jakob Munck, Liudas Mockunas and Mikko Innanen, so rest assured: the swapping of ideas will keep
you highly stimulated.
