He started his musical adventure early on with the trombone, continued with the cello, but changed to the piano after seeing Frank Sinatra singing on TV. He won “The Perrier Young Jazz

Musician” award in 2001 and is currently The Artist in Residence at the Leeds College of Music, lecturing in composition and piano. On top of his solo performances, which may take you to the movies or

to meet Homer Simpson, Matthew leads Bilbao Syndrome. He describes the trio as “Scott Walker meets Meshuggah” and warns that it’s not for the fainthearted.
