Axl Smith LIVE!
(FIN)
hip-hop, funk, neo-gospel
All MTV-watchers know that Axl Smith is a VJ and producer there, but now he is also a hip-hop/funk/neo-soul artist, whose brand new debut album the French radio ALLHIPHOP described as “sounding like Michael Jackson and Prince would’ve met in the hip-hop world”. Axl takes his music seriously. It doesn’t mean it’s pompous art-for-art’s-sake, but it does mean that he has some dynamitelike players in his band, like guitarist Janne Halonen, basist Vellu Salminen and drum wizard Toni Porthen. The leader handles turntables and sampler on top of rapping and singing and, no doubt, prancing around like a maniac, having studied dancing before his tv career. There has also been a second vocalist Charles Salter in the project.
Expect hip-hop with big choruses, funky grooves, phat synth bass lines and a very lively stage show.
