UMO feat. Lenny Pickett, cond. Rich Shemaria

(FIN,US)
funk, soul

It’s a real feast for all jazz funkateers, when Lenny Pickett, one of the funkiest tenorists ever, gets seriously down with UMO,

Finland’s number one big band.

Celebrated for his awesome altissimo skills, the long-time musical leader of Saturday Night Live Band is a professor of jazz saxophone at

NY University, though he has had no formal musical schooling. The self-taught whiz kid joined Tower of Power’s first incarnation at 18

and stayed there 10 years.

Later he has worked with stars from Elton John to David Bowie and Laurie Anderson, while leading his own 3-sax Borneo Horns. Many

theatres, filmmakers and experimental groups, like the New Century Saxophone Quartet, have commissioned works from Pickett.
