Tineke Postma Quartet

(NL)
post-bop, contemporary jazz

Holland’s rising alto/soprano saxophonist brings charmingly sensual female energy to still male-dominated jazz. DownBeat gave her A Journey That Matters album (2007) four stars and said:

“Postma demonstrates an unusual ability to infuse melodic statements with expressive nuance. Her improvisations show a measured sense of development with no lapses to flashiness for its own

sake.”

30 year old Tineke had an exceptional start in music for somebody her age, as she never was a pop/rock fan, but fell in love with her father’s Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley records before she

even knew they were jazz.

She now mentions also Joe Lovano, Michael Brecker and Dave Liebman as inspirations. After graduating from the Amsterdam Conservatory with honours in 2003 she received two scholarships to study at the

Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she was taught by Liebman, Chris Potter and Dick Oatts. Tineke has made three well-received albums so far and is the recipient of several distinguished jazz

prizes.
