(US)
Modern & mainstream jazz, blues
Jimmy Owens is an old school master of trumpet and flugelhorn, who specializes in ballads and the blues. Hes also arranger, music educator and composer, who has scored films as well as ballet. Owens plays
on countless albums, his latest, Peaceful Walking, came out on his own Jay-Oh Jazz label. In Pori, you hear him as a special guest star in several bands.
Literally grown up swinging as a jazz fan’s son and mentored as a kid by Donald Byrd, Jimmy Owens can entertain you with awesome stories about jazz luminaries like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Dizzy
Gillespie, Max Roach, Charles Mingus or Hank Crawford, to name a few, as he has played with all of them. He has lectured about music and even its business aspects in several universities and founded
important jazz organizations, like the Collective Black Artists, inc. and The Jazz Musician’s Emergency Fund.
Depth in music comes from vision and experience. Jimmy has plenty of both.
