“We want to mess with people’s heads and give an alternative to the jazz mainstream”, declares this trio of bold young lions. With their XL-sized musical vocabulary it certainly is possible. The time signatures might be complex, but still they groove in their lopsided way. This is jazz made by a new net generation that grew up listening to all kinds of music. Taught by Lee Konitz, among others, altoist-clarinettist Wanja Slavin has studied jazz and film music. He’s a hot item on the current Berlin jazz scene. He also runs The Lotus Eaters and his own sextet. Gothenburgian double bassist Petter Eldh graduated from Dr. Dre’s hip-hop to Charlie Parker and Peter Brötzmann in his early teens. Drummer Christian Lillinger plays with Grund, Hyperactive Kid and free legend John Tchikai.
