Ricky Martin
The ruling super star of Latin pop! The Puertorican singer broke into international consciousness, outside the Latin genre, in 1999 with his massive Livin’ la Vida Loca single hitting the charts in many countries from US to Asia and Europe.
Born Enrique Martin Morales in 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin joined a boy band Menudo at 12. They had some success through out Latin America. At 17 Ricky became ”too old” for the teen band and relocated to New York trying to start a solo career. That proved very hard. Then he moved to Mexico, where he made his first two albums. They were quite successful. He also acted there on stage and on tv. Soon he was back in the States, this time in LA. There he got a role in a tv soap opera General Hospital. His fifth album, titled Ricky Martin like his first, changed the language to English and contained the mega hit that sold 17 million units. The rest is history.
His 9th album, Música+Alma+Sexo, came out this year featuring Joss Stone, Natalia Jiménez (both on versions of the hit The Best Thing About Me Is You) and the Puertorican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel. Martin got his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007 and runs the benefit organization Ricky Martin Foundation.
