Raappana & Sound Explosion Band
(FIN)
10 years ago nobody would have guessed that Finnish reggae is the most popular music style in Finland today. And rather rootsy reggae at that! It’s youngest lion is Janne “Raappana” Pöyhönen from Lahti. He and The Sound Explosion Band make strictly pro-life music that speaks to your hips as well as to your brain. It’s uplifting and conscious, but not naïve. It will make you forget your troubles and skank!
Having first dug mostly hip-hop, Raappana was already into reggae, when he started performing with The FI-Reggae All Stars and The Revolution Sound System. Since the Ylivoima label’s boss, producer/song-writer Bommitommi, signed him, Raappana has made three albums with The Sound Explosion Band, not counting the remix compilation Ilta on nuori. The debut album Päivä on nuori (2007) hit the National Chart at 18, but his second long play, Maapallo(2010), went straight to number 1. Coming out last spring, Tuuliajolla continues the amazing success story of this humble and down-to-earth young man that sings straight from the heart.
