Mikko Innanen Cédric Piromalli Teppo Hauta-aho Paul Lovens
(FIN/FRA/GER)
What happens when two pairs of players from two totally different decades, both among the best in improvised jazz in their age group, are put together? Well, nobody knows, because they hit the stage without any pre-planning, but for sure the result will be inspired and unique. The project started when Finnish saxophonist Mikko Innanen spent an evening some years ago with the German free jazz legend, drummer Paul Lovens. Soon they talked about a mutual friend, master improviser and doublebassist Teppo Hauta-aho, who had played with Lovens in Quintet Moderne and Cecil Taylor’s band. The need to play together was aroused.
Innanen suggested they also call in his contemporary, brilliant French pianist Cedric Piromalli, with whose band Triade he had played. Thus the fronts from two different time periods would be equal. They did two gigs in France in 2011 and both were so uplifting they decided to continue, when their schedules will permit it.
