Eva & Manu
This talented young Finnish-French couple forges their style from folk, jazz, pop and rock elements. The music seduces you with its beautiful melodies and wonderfully light swing. Occasionally they may also throw in a clever cover of, say, a song by The Black Keys or The Fleet Foxes.
Eva Louhivuori (vocals, keyboards) and Emmanuel Laudic (vocals, string instruments) studied at Boston’s famous Berklee School of Music and met there. They performed together already there, but, having finished their studies, returned to Europe, where their first base was Manu’s father’s country house in the south of France. Soon they bought a van and started to travel with it around Europe. They stayed nights at country houses and paid by labor. While traveling, they started a video blog called Travel In Music, releasing a new song and its video every week, every one written in a new place about a different subject. The blog spread the word about Eva & Manu’s music internationally and they began to get offers for gigs and spots on television shows.
Their eponymous debut album came out in August last year. On the record the duo has a whole band bringing extra color to the songs, while the couple’s ethereal vocal harmonies light up the slightly philosophical lyrics. Joni Mitchell and Jose Gonzales come to mind as spiritual relatives.
