Timo Lassy Band
To quote The Guardian: ”He has a story telling approach to solos”. The bluesy soulfulness of Gene Ammons, the spirituality of John Coltrane and also the hard-to-describe, but easy-to-recognize tribal mysticism of African players; they all inhabit the big sound of the young Helsinki blower. Whether it’s tenor, baritone or flute, Timo delivers. No wonder he gets a lot of calls for work all the time.
Timo Lassy rose to larger fame in the hard-bopping U-Street All Stars in 2002. His reputation grew substantially as a member of the 50/60-inspired 5 Corners Quintet and the Teddy Rok 7, with it’s 70’s influenced soul jazz. All three were highly noted in the international music press. He is also party to the dynamite afro-beat of The Rhythm Funk Masters´ African-American-Arctic. 5 Corners’ drum ace Teppo “Teddy Rok” Mäkynen, who plays in the Lassy Band, produced Timo’s Ricky-Tick albums The Soul & Jazz of Timo Lassy and Round Two, the latter featuring singer Jose James. The groovy third album, In With Lassy, came out on Schema early this summer.
