Olavi trio feat. J.Aaltonen
”With us, everybody is free to take the music to a different direction and new things constantly emerge. We all react to what the others are doing and end up surprising each other”, double bass player Teppo Hauta-aho, the grand old man of Finnish jazz and improvisation, says in the sleevenotes to this new trio’s debut album Triologia (2011). To make the Ultra gig extra special, they invite Hauta-aho’s old friend and colleague, the brilliant tenor saxophonist/flutist Juhani Aaltonen on stage with them.
The band has three generations of superb jazz and improvisation talent. Hauta-aho and Aaltonen rose to prominence already in the early 60’s and have since played thousands of gigs and recorded profusely, mostly jazz, but also rock and classical. Trombonist Jari Hongisto (Sound & Fury, Quintet Moderne, Otto Donner, Iro Haarla, etc) emerged during the 80’s, and drummer Olavi Louhivuori (Oddarrang, Sun Trio, Ilmiliekki, Emma Salokoski) early this millennium.
