Auteur Jazz
Cinematic jazz is not a new thing, but timeless, even though its roots are probably deepest in the heady soil of the 60’s. Whatever the case, it’s hard to find a more colourful, atmospheric and kick ass band in that category than our own Auteur Jazz.
Aphorisms, featuring Sara Sayed’s sexy vocalizing on two tracks, started the picture provoking band’s career in 2009 in first class right away, naturally on the very cool Ricky-Tick label. As highly as the first album was praised, nationally and internationally, the second round, Cunning Album, raises the bar. Live performances have sharpened the band’s claws and deepened its character.
Sense of danger, slow but super-charged scenes, dynamic contrasts, intricate arrangements and film noir-like understanding of cool mark the juicily structured compositions of multi-reedsman Antti Hynninen. In his music the air is thick with foreboding, women are fateful and cars burn rubber. And yes, Auteur Jazz does also make you dance.
