The New Songs
For those, who really want ”something else”. With prepared piano, two prepared guitars and vocalizing that is completely free from ordinary frasing, the quiet quartet creates delicate, fragile and strange music, which hangs in the air like thoughts rising from the subconscious.
The band’s composers are two remarkable women. Ethiopian-born Swedish voice artist Sofia Jernberg has worked with many of Sweden’s experimental jazz musicians. She has recorded as a leader and has a duo, Paavo, with pianist Cecilia Persson.
French pianist Eve Risser is best known from her wild duo, Donkey Monkey, with Japanese drummer Yuko Oshima. The Welsh harpist Rhodri Davies was recently replaced by young Norwegian guitarist Kim Myhr, whose two albums with Australian reedsman Jim Denley won high praise in the distinguished Wire magazine. The other axeman in the band, David Stackenäs, is one of Sweden’s leading free jazz guitarists.
