Myron & E with The Soul Investigators
(US/FIN)
hardcore funk & soul
If real funk delivered with a no-nonsense attitude and diamond-hard chops is your thing, you will go to heaven here on earth with these guys. Frantic organ grooves, garage-flavoured guitar licks, crackling drums and heavy bass together with not one, but two vocalists, who take their soul seriously and hypnotize you with intensity. It’s hip & uncut, y’all!
In the late 90’s The Soul Investigators started a task in a run-down funky shack on the outskirts of Helsinki: to make funk that’s stripped of all but bare essentials. Led by guitarist/DJ/producer Didier Selin they put out two killer albums (Soul Strike, Home Cooking) on their own label Timmion (where they press their own vinyls) and followed them, among some dubbier stuff, with two albums with singer Nicole Willis (If This Ain’t Love, Keep Reachin’ Up). All those records got rave reviews and made them the pets of hip groove freaks around the world.
Now The Soul Investigators are about to release their new album with Myron & E, two black brothers from sunny California, who appreciate the band’s down-home ethics and answer the call with undiluted soul. For starters, check out the preceding singles: Cold Game and It’s A Shame!
