Jaska Lukkarinen Trio
(FIN)
modern jazz
Two years ago he was the recipient of the Sony Jazz Award, last year the young drummer was Pori Jazz’s “Artist of the Year”.
Those awards landed in the right place. Jaska Lukkarinen is one of those open-ended musicians, who don’t want to nail themselves down in any one place, though jazz is closest to his heart, as is evident on his trio’s debut album Trane Ear. The band features Jussi Kannaste (Sony Jazz Award 2005) on sax and Antti Lötjönen (Ilmiliekki, Five Corners) on bass. His style is sensually groovy, but can get seriously funky, when needed.
Jaska has studied at the Manhattan School of Music and plays, outside his own combo, Brazilian influenced cinematic jazz in Dalindeo, blues and rock in Honey B & The T-Bones and world music in Värttinä.
