Dallapé
(FIN)
old time Finnish dance music
The most popular Finnish dance band of all time heard American jazz in the 1920´s and started to play the Finnish pop songs of its time with the new jazzy swinging touch featuring the best singers, like the legendary Olavi Virta and Jori Malmstén. The hits began to rain. Now the orchestra comes back in a new incarnation cherishing the original spirit with love and respect.
“When I got the opportunity to lead Dallapé, I didn’t hesitate one second. Right away it was clear that the band has to be of the size and calibre of its heyday”, explains Juha Hostikka, who has made his singing career at the National Opera and the Opera Festival of Savonlinna. The lead vocalist of the new Dallapé is Sami Saari, one of the best Finnish soul singers, while the guest vocalist of the 85th anniversary will be Topi Sorsakoski of the mighty Agents fame. Hostikka also sings, of course.
On top of the rhythm section the band includes four horns, a xylofonist, a violinist and a guitarist. The musicians back the singers up in the classic style of the original Dallapé. The brand new album, Dallapé Plays Again, came out on the honourable Blue Note label in May and it gives a good picture what this killer band is capable of. The roots truly live in the new Dallapé!
