Suomen Jazzliitto esittää: Suomi-Jazzin historiaa, osa 1
Jazz
The History of Finnish jazz during the 1960’s and 1970’s seems not as extensively recorded as it could have been. Still, the catalogue includes several titles rated as classics nowadays.
“The History of Finnish Jazz”, a concert project launched in the summer of 2009 by the Finnish Jazz Federation stages some of these sought-after recordings with a cast of musicians belonging both
to the original personnel of the albums, and to the new wave of Finnish jazz as well.
At Pori Jazz on July 13 and 14, two of these performances are heard: Olli Ahvenlahti’s sextet plays material from the 1975 album “The Poet”, and a quartet led by trumpet player Verneri
Pohjola and drummer Joonas Riippa presents a new take on the drummer Christian Schwindt’s lost classic “For Friends and Relatives”.
