Maraca´s "Otra Vision"
(Cuba)
Afro-Cuban Jazz
We all know that Cuba has many really hot bands, but even in this heavy company Otra Vision, led by superb young show man and flautist Orlando “Maraca” Valle, sticks out with its volatile
cocktail of Afro-Cuban traditions, modern jazz and the most interesting latest trends. If you don’t dance to this, chances are you’re dead.
A real child prodigy, Maraca composed his first danzon for flute and piano at 10. After getting classical education at two Havana conservatoires, he started his professional career at 16 in Emiliano
Salvador’s and Bobby Carcasses’ bands. Then he was flautist, keyboard player and arranger for Irakere for six years. Since that time he has released several highly- praised solo albums and
conquered people over with Otra Vision on record and by gigging all over the world. Outside of Cuba the band is very popular in the US where The Chicago Tribune called it “the most influential
Afro-Cuban band of the emerging century”.
