Fred Frith & Lucia Recio
(UK/FRA)
improvisation, avant-garde jazz
Anything is possible when the British guitarist, one of the stars in experimental music, and the Andalusian-born voice conjurer perform the world premier of their improvising duo.
Fred Frith, who often favours customized or self-made guitars, came to fame in the witty avant-rock band Henry Cow. He has also played in Massacre, Skeleton Crew and Art Bears, and collaborated with the
leading avantgardists from Derek Bailey, Robert Wyatt and Brian Eno to John Zorn, Bill Laswell and the Residents. Fred has written in many music magazines and composed long works, like Traffic Continues for
Ensemble Modern and Freedom In Fragments for the Rova Saxophone Quartet. Still actively performing and recording Frith is a professor of composition at Mills College in California.
The self-taught voice artist Lucia Recio started her career singing flamenco, but soon ventured into the areas of jazz and experimental music.
One of her great vocal performances happened in Frith’s Landing project. On top of everything else she often performs solo, in various duos and in her own Torero Loco trio.
