Festival year 2001
Some 500 musicians performed in 114 different groups during Pori Jazz 2001 held between July 14th and 22nd. During the 9 days the festival lasted 105 concerts were presented and 52 of these concerts were complimentary.
There were 12 concert venues and jazz was played for 13 000 minutes which is 216 hours and 40 minutes (9 x 24 hours plus 40 minutes). In addition to this blues, rock and pop was played for some 34 hours and DJ’s performed for 23 hours and 30 minutes. Latin music was played for 17 hours and ethno music for 3 hours and 30 minutes. To add up all this, Pori Jazz 2001 offered 17 640 minutes of music which – if played continuous would take 12 days and 3 hours.
Erykah Badu, John Hammond and the Farewell Tour of Manhattan Transfer were most praised performances.
Saxophonist Joonatan Rautio was awarded as the artist of the year.
