Festival year 1983

In 1983 the festival started on July 14th and closed on 17th.

Based on the music of Fats Waller, the Broadway musical Ainít Misbehavin was performed several times during the festival to sold out halls. The musical brought new kind of audience to Pori Jazz Ė especially people enjoying plays and musicals.

VSOP II led by Herbie Hancock was the most famous group performing and the most thrilling musical surprises were Tania Maria Quartet and Hannibal Marvin Peterson and Harlem Boys Choir.

Jazz Street was opened for the very first time. It was a bazaar situated near by the Pori Art Museum. Jazz Street was the venue for several free concerts that introduced jazz to people who had doubts about that line of music.
